The goal of this worship challenge is to fill our minds and worship with the names of God. It’s a great follow-up to my last post, “Why should I know His name?”. As we discussed there, the Bible tells us that knowing God’s names is important and exalting in His name is expected. So for each of your 5 days this week, spend time filling your mind and your mouth with God’s names in worship – positioning ourselves before God to humbly behold all He might reveal.
Here are a couple of suggestions for how to do that:
1) Take advantage of the video below that was also in my last post. It so beautifully takes us from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming many of the names and titles of God spread through out the Bible. In the video, the names are not only read aloud for us to hear, but they’re printed for us to see. So read God’s names along with the video out loud in worship to Him. Now, this video is 11 minutes long, so, ideally, make sure you have time to complete it each day. If that is too much for you, then stop it half-way through, and pick-up where you left off the next day…starting it over again on day three. Ideally you should be able to get through the whole video at least 3 times in these 5 days, if not more. Have a pen and paper with you so you can quickly write down any name(s) that is impressed on you more so you can meditate, pray, or worship with it throughout the rest of your day. (Ideally, this would be a great time to start memorizing some of these names for future worship or prayer times, too.)
2) Another option would be to read through the list of Names, Titles, and Descriptions of God on my website here. It’s obviously pretty long, but choose sections so you can get through as much of it as possible – and hopefully repeat much of it. Again, we want God’s names on our tongues, so read the list aloud as part of a time of lifting them in worship. And have a pen and paper so you can jot down any name(s) that you might want to keep before you the rest of the day.
Besides speaking God’s names out loud, if possible, also get in a posture physically of humble surrender to your God. If you’re able, kneeling is the ultimate position of surrender. If not, try leaning forward in your chair toward your lap perhaps with your palms up. Whatever places you in a position of yielding before Him as you glory in His names.
After all, Philippians 2:9-11 tells us, “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
I’m really looking forward to this challenge and know it will bring a powerful, new dimension to my worship and prayer life after it’s done. Please let me know how you were blessed!
