God’s Promise for the Languishing Soul

By on August 24, 2014

Ever feel like you’re just languishing? Discouraged? Unproductive? Useless even?

A couple of weeks ago, I was paying too much attention to those attacks that say, “Why are you trying so hard? You just don’t have much more to offer. Other people are a lot more valuable.” I could feel my spirit sinking. And then God did that God-thing He does and quickly led me to this passage:

“The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree,
 He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Planted in the house of the LORD,

They will flourish in the courts of our God.

They will still yield fruit in old age;
 They shall be full of sap and very green,
To declare that the LORD is upright;
 He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” Psalm 92:12-15

Peace immediately washed over me as I read, “Planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” And God whispered, “Remember, Pam, as long as you’re planted and nourished in the house of the Lord with your roots digging deep in the place of worship – in My “courts” – then you WILL “flourish!” You WILL thrive! You don’t have to worry about your usefulness. In Me you find all you need. Stop doubting. You will accomplish all I created you to be and do when you’re planted in that place – pouring yourself out before Me.

Oh, that place! Where we see, bask, and respond to all He’s willing to show us of Himself. And where we allow His glory to fill us – making us “full of sap and very green” – and empower us to be all He created us to be. AND in the process, glorify Him (the best result) – “declare” who He is with our lives!

It’s so easy to listen to the lies. I’ve mastered that defeat-bearing task. But the transformational power of being at His feet – responding to His glory and being reminded of His truth – can lift us to heights that only He can design.

Worship. It’s FOR HIM. Period. But He pours out all that He is on us in the process. His love. His holiness. His goodness. His power. And so much more. He can’t help Himself! And the result? We flourish!

How have you experienced the flourishing results of worship?
